Communal groups are nothing new and have just about run the gamut of different religions, ideologies, and reasons for being such. As far back as times before Christ, there were Jewish groups who formed monasteries and lived in hermit-like groups, isolating themselves from the rest of the world and spent their time in worship, prayer, reading, fasting and such. Of course, these were different than the later groups and modern day communes in that they normally consisted only of men. | Jesus People USA | |

President James A. Garfield observed that, "The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities ... If the next centennial does not find us a great nation, it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces." |

Here’s another one of those bumper sticker proverbs: Enthusiasm is contagious. Start an epidemic. How many times has this been proven true? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had an enthusiasm epidemic in the church? Is enthusiasm scriptural? Paul seems to be concerned with being zealous. He says in Galatians 4:18, But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always. With what good things is Paul concerned? |

Does your congregation have a web site? Can you add, update and delete
information from your existing web site easily? If you answered no to
either question visit The Lord's Way. This new service allows you to create a web
site for your congregation and update it yourself whenever you want by
simply completing online forms. The service is designed for any
congregation that wants a web site that contains current, updated and fresh
information but does not want to invest the time and money in learning about
the inner-workings of the Internet. Your new site will be packed with
information about your congregation. Visit us and take a tour! I would be interested in any preacher(s)'s libraries that are not in use. I promise to put any and all books to good use, either by myself, or other preachers or preaching students. Please don't let them sit in boxes out in the garage. I would gladly pay for postage, and if you require, I may be able to purchase them from you. Please call or email, Tim Smith at: (903) 935-7448; EMAIL.

Some probably wonder what is wrong with communal living, and under certain conditions, there might be nothing scripturally wrong with it, but the term would have to be used in a very liberal tone I think. Every aspect would have to be considered in light of the scripture. The reason one would do it is vitally important. The people with whom one would commune would have to be seriously considered. The degree of isolation from the outside world would be vital, and on and on. |

By D. Gene West With the end of the twentieth century, we hear more and more people talking about the end of time. There is a flurry of excitement, at the end of this century just as there was at the end of the last and the beginning of this one, that involves itself in the setting of dates for the second coming of Christ. This is especially true among those people who are called “Premillennialists,” because they take great delight in trying to ascertain the time in which the Lord will return for his people. This is also true because they teach that there will be several comings of Christ during the last time. But our purpose today is not, primarily, to speak of the strange doctrines of the various kinds of “Millennialists,” but to note that date setting for the end of time is nothing new to the Christian dispensation. The U.S. city with the highest rate of lightning strikes per capita is Clearwater, Florida. (Now you know...stay away from Clearwater!) In Utah, it is illegal to swear in front of a dead person (I can't prove that, just read it somewhere.) May God bless his faithful children, wherever they are. | ![]() |
A Tortoise, lazily basking in the sun, complained to the sea-birds of her hard fate, that no one would teach her to fly. An Eagle, hovering near, heard her lamentation and demanded what reward she would give him if he would take her aloft and float her in the air. "I will give you," she said, "all the riches of the Red Sea." "I will teach you to fly then," said the Eagle; and taking her up in his talons he carried her almost to the clouds suddenly he let her go, and she fell on a lofty mountain, dashing her shell to pieces. The Tortoise exclaimed in the moment of death: "I have deserved my present fate; for what had I to do with wings and clouds, who can with difficulty move about on the earth?' |
