MORNINGSTAR FELLOWSHIP CHURCH

Morningstar Fellowship Church, or Ministries, is another small and not too well known movement started in 1985 by Rick and Julie Joyner and is but one more movement that was started and maintained only for financial gain. The "doctrine" of the movement is nothing more than "Love for God and Love for your fellow man". Two noble requirements but absolutely nothing new whatsoever. They will accept just about any church into their fellowship who accept those two requirements and they offer two levels of membership. Level one is that with oversight from Morningstar and the level 2 is without their oversight. I am confident, however that there is a substantial charge regardless of which level a church might accept.

Jim Bakker, former leader of the PTL (Praise The Lord) ministries and who served several years in prison for overselling timeshares to a hotel on the PTL grounds has, since release from prison, associated himself with Rick Joyner, which in itself, is reason for questioning the motives of either of these two men.

For those who might have an interest in more information concerning this movement, you may click on the header of this article to visit their homepage or you may visit the links listed below for more information.

COMMITMENT TO CHRIST
By Jason T. Carter
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together...” Well, the writer of that, you know he never
Had kids playing baseball and other sports, Children with homework and things of that sort!

He never tried to get a promotion at work, Dealing with deadlines and a boss who’s a jerk...
A favorite TV show, starring ol’ what’s-his-name, And you know I can’t miss the big football game!

I’m just too busy to go to church all the time! I’m there Sunday morning; don’t you think that’s just fine?
Well not every Sunday, you know things always come up. My service to God I can always interrupt.

But what did Jesus say? Oh wait, what is this? He said, “Seek ye first God’s kingdom and His righteousness.”
Since the kingdom is the church, in her I must be To defend against the devil and his tempting infantry.

They said, “Love not the world, nor the things of it...” “Lay up not treasures on earth,” and, “Thou shalt not covet.”
When I put things before God, that’s exactly what I do, Whether it’s money or sports, TV or work, or yes, even school.

“All spiritual blessings are in Christ and His church...” So many times I fail to see what that’s really worth.

Consequences of Disobedience
By T. Pierce Brown

There is a story in 1 Kings 13:11-26 that illustrates so aptly the consequences of disobedience. If any lesson highlights Matthew 7:21, surely this is it. "Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." If any lesson illustrates the importance of Paul's admonition in 1 Corinthians 10:12 this is it. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall."

Let us notice several things about the story that should be significant to us, especially those of us who preach the gospel. Here was a true believer. Note 1 Kings 13:1, "And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense." He was not a simple peasant caught in the field by a lion. He was not a criminal, caught in the act of robbing who was killed by a policeman. He was a man of God with a message from God. "He came by the word of the Lord." He was not merely a commentator, but an ambassador of God, sent on a mission with a specific message.

He was a man with courage. 1 King 13:2, "And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD." King Jeroboam had built the altar, and the king was standing there listening. He was not merely hinting some general things from a distant pulpit.

He was a man of power. 1 King 13:3-4, "And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out. And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him."

He was a man of self-denial. When the king invited him to refresh himself and take a reward, he refused. He was no hireling. 1 King 13:7, "And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward."

One of the most significant things in the story is that he fell by listening to a man instead of to God. The man he listened to was an older man, for whom he had been taught to have respect. He was a prophet of God, which made him more trustworthy in the mind of the young prophet. We need constantly to be aware that one's being a prophet, priest or preacher, aged or otherwise is no guarantee that he will be speaking the word of God. Remember that Paul said in Galatians 1:8, "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Remember 1 John 4:1, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

Surely a person cannot look at this story along with that of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Nadab and Abihu, Moses, Uzzah, Saul, Naaman and others without being impressed with the fact that things may seem trivial in our sight, but whatever God has said is important. It is true that God has revealed that some things are more important than others. Jesus said in Matthew 23:23, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone." Note carefully that he did not say, "Do the weightier matters, and do not be concerned about the smaller things."

Regardless of who or what contributed to his apostasy, he had to face death and the judgment of God alone. As Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:10, "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."

We also need to realize that God's judgments are sure. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Sin may be forgiven, but someone always suffers the consequences of any sin. David is one of the most significant cases. He committed adultery and murder, and was forgiven, but he and his house suffered. 2 Samuel 12:10 says, "Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife."

There are other lessons in this story, but if we are impressed with the consequences of disobedience to any command of God, and so order our lives that we have respect for His word, His will and His way in all that we do or say, the purpose of this article will have been accomplished.

Pennsylvania Conservatives Outraged by Victory for Homosexual Activists

Under New State Law, Speaking Truth About [Homosexuality] May Draw Fines, Time in Jail

By Fred Jackson and Jody Brown - December 4, 2002

(AgapePress) - Pastors in Pennsylvania are facing a new state law today that could mean they will be charged for simply preaching against homosexuality.

On Monday, the Ethnic Intimidation law in Pennsylvania called for longer jail terms and higher fines for crimes motivated by hatred against victims because of race, color, religion, or national origin. But with the stroke of a pen on Tuesday, Governor Mark Schweiker signed legislation amending that law to include the phrase: "ancestry, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity."

So what does that mean? According to The Washington Times, it means that someone who is convicted of attacking a homosexual because of his sexual orientation would face a longer jail term and stiffer fines -- just as a person does now for targeting a racial minority. Advocates are calling the measure a "breakthrough for principles of tolerance and social justice." Critics, though, have a very different view.

Diane Gramley is president of the American Family Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania. She says the governor has bought into the lie that there is an epidemic of hate crimes against homosexuals in the state-- and that the law will allow "thought police" to decide the intentions of any perpetrator.

"The free-speech rights of those who do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle were taken away by the stroke of the governor's pen," Gramle says. "Pennsylvania's leadership has failed -- rather than show compassion and being honest with those caught in this destructive lifestyle, [Schweiker] has instead chosen to embrace and further help in legitimizing it."

Gramley also contends the legislation is plainly a homosexual special-rights law. She points out that despite the terminology added to the law, the bill was pushed by pro-homosexual groups -- not by those concerned with mental or physical disabilities.

According to The Times, the new law was drafted by a pro-homosexual group in Philadelphia -- the Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights -- and had the support of Republicans and Democrats alike.

Laurel Lynn Petolicchio is a constitutional activist from Columbia, Pennsylvania. She tells The Times the new law poses particular risks for "conservative religious people who may very well find themselves hauled into court unless they keep their mouths shut."

She says this legislation basically sets up potential lawsuits against any minister or religious leader who publicly states that certain sexual behavior is immoral or improper. One pastor quoted by The Times says he is already looking into getting insured against any legal actions he may face.

Another pastor says the law is bringing about what Christ warned: that Christians will be "hauled off and slaughtered for their beliefs." And while that concerns Pastor Frederick Bieber of the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, he says "that's the only way they're going to shut me up anyway."

MUSINGS OF JOEL

My friend, and brother in Christ, Max Rogers emailed me the following little story and I found it to be not only amusing, but unfortunately, quite realistic. See what you think.

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

It is a truth that, when you begin getting pretty old, that your address/phone book becomes filled with Physicians and Pharmacists. But I'm thankful that we have them. I know that I am getting old. I've had 5 different surgeries within a period of about 24 months. You would think that, with all that tissue removal, that I would have lost at least a little weight!

I would not mind surgery so much if it weren't for the pain. And the cost. And the time in a hospital bed with an IV needle in the back of your hand. Plus other undesirables. I'm recuperating from two now and I believe the minor one is more painful than the more major one! What makes all this so bad is that you have to pay to have it done. If a Mack truck hits you, you could probably get paid for that, but not for these surgeries. I had heart surgery in 1991, a pretty serious thing. The doctor told my daughter it was as if a Mack truck had run over her daddy. Then I got to thinking of the difference in cost. It wasn't a very good comparison.

PARTING SHOTS FROM JOEL
Nadine & Joel Hendon
WHERE "SAYINGS" ORIGINATED
I cannot assure you that this is fact or fiction.

At local taverns, pubs and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in "pints" and who was drinking in "quarts." Hence, the term "minding your"P's and Q's."

May God bless his faithful children, wherever they are.

THE FOX AND THE GOAT

A Fox one day fell into a deep well and could find no means of escape. A Goat, overcome with thirst, came to the same well, and seeing the Fox, inquired if the water was good. Concealing his sad plight under a merry guise, the Fox indulged in a lavish praise of the water, saying it was excellent beyond measure, and encouraging him to descend. The Goat, mindful only of his thirst, thoughtlessly jumped down, but just as he drank, the Fox informed him of the difficulty they were both in and suggested a scheme for their common escape. "If," said he, "you will place your forefeet upon the wall and bend your head, I will run up your back and escape, and will help you out afterwards." The Goat readily assented and the Fox leaped upon his back. Steadying himself with the Goat's horns, he safely reached the mouth of the well and made off as fast as he could. When the Goat upbraided him for breaking his promise, he turned around and cried out, "You foolish old fellow! If you had as many brains in your head as you have hairs in your beard, you would never have gone down before you had inspected the way up, nor have exposed yourself to dangers from which you had no means of escape."

Look before you leap....Aesop
