It is located in the northeast corner of Calhoun county View Map and is connected by U.S highway 278 and Alabama highways 9 and 21. It is surrounded by recreational and scenic spots. Northward some 20 miles, you will find fishing and boating activities of Weiss Lake on the Coosa river near Centre, Alabama. Approximately 45 miles farther north is the TVA hydroelectric dam on the Tennessee river with the resulting huge backwater area surrounding the Guntersville, Alabama area.
Also, about 30 miles west of Piedmont you will find the Neely-Henry dam and backwater on the Coosa River. And still another, the Logan-Martin dam and lake some 30 miles south from the Neely-Henry dam. Obviously, there are ample water activities within a 50-60 mile distance from Piedmont. Additional recreation assets include a close proximity to the Talladega National Forest covering a large portion of Dugger mountain where deer and wild turkey are plentiful. The nationally famous Pinhoti (Indian word meaning "turkey home") Trail extends 104 miles in the Talladega National Forest including Dugger Mountain and Mount Cheaha where the highest point in Alabama is located at the Cheaha State Park. The Chief Ladiga Trail is a "Rails to Trails" cooperative effort. This is a paved trail on an abandoned roadbed of the Seaboard Airlines Railway system and, when finished will extend from Anniston, Alabama to Atlanta, Georgia for a completed length of about 90 miles. It's present status is that the majority of the Alabama portion is completed, with some 33 miles from Anniston through Jacksonville and Piedmont to the Cleburne County line. This trail, unlike the mountain hiking trails, is easily navigable yet affords some beautiful wooded and country scenes. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on this trail.
