ABOUT
US
We are a
group of Christians who assemble on the
first day of each week ( the LORD's day Revelation
1:10
) to commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ,
the Son of the Living God by partaking of the Lord's supper. We do this
by example of the inspired apostles and first century Christians ( Acts
20:7 )and upon the request of Jesus Himself ( 1
Corinthians 11: 23-26 ).
And while we are assembled, we observe the other items of
worship as dictated and followed by the Inspired Apostles and the first
century Christians. They sang ( Colossians
3: 16 ), so we sing. They prayed ( Ephesians
6: 18 ), and so we pray. They had someone read scripture or preach
( Acts
20: 26-27 ), we also have preaching and/or scripture reading. And
they
gave of their means according to their prosperity ( 1
Corinthians 16: 2
), and we do likewise. These are the items of worship to our Lord as
given by command, divine example, or necessary inference and we are not
so presumptuous as to add to or subtract from those items. Come
worship with us and you will see that we make every effort to do all
things according to the teaching of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
The Piedmont church of Christ is not a name. It is a descriptive
sentence explaining what
it is. It simply means it is an independent group of followers of Jesus
Christ who have joined no earthly denomination but have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine taught by Jesus and His inspired writers of
the New Testament. According to His word, when one has followed the
detailed commands concerning what they must do to be forgiven of their
sins, they will then be added to His church...by Him ( Acts
2: 47
) and the joining of some organization founded by man is neither
authorized, necessary or beneficial. We also believe that these
organizations are cause for divisions among His followers. ( I
Corinthians 1: 10-13 )
We accept the word of God, the Holy Bible, as being true and absolute.
We believe that God created the heavens and the earth in six 24 hour
days and did so by His spoken word as described in the Genesis account.
We believe that the requirements for removal of one's past sins are
summed up by obedience of the following commands...not one or two of
them, but all.
(1) Hear (learn) the word of God (
Romans 10: 17)
(2) Believe it, and believe that it must be obeyed. ( Hebrews
11:6 ) ( James
2: 17-26, )( John
14: 23 )
(3) Repent (determine to turn from a life of sin to a life of obedience
and sacrifice). ( Luke
13: 3) ( Acts
2: 38 ) ( 3:
19 )
(4) Confess (confess that you believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God).
( Romans
10: 10 ) ( Acts
8: 36-38 )
(5) Be Baptized, totally immersed in water following the completion of
the above 4 requirements...not as a ritual into some earthly
organization, but in obedience to the commandments of Jesus Christ at
which time your sins will be forgiven and remembered against you no
more. And Jesus will number you among His "called out". ( Mark
16: 16 ) (Acts
2: 38 ) ( 1
Peter 3: 21 ) ( Acts
2: 47 )
At this point one has become a new creature and is cleansed from his
old sins. He can, however, sin anew and be lost. The additional
requirement is expressed in (
Revelation 2: 10 )
We also reject the unsound Calvinistic doctrines of total depravity,
unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistable grace,
perseverence of the saints. Neither of these doctrines are taught in
the Holy Bible, and in fact, are contradictory to biblical truths.
We believe that God created all men and granted to each the right of
free moral agency. Therefore, we respect the right for any to believe
and obey God or to disbelieve and disobey Him. We also believe that He
has placed obligation upon His children to proclaim His truths to
others and make every peaceable effort to persuade them to accept those
truths.
We find the ultra liberal actions presently polluting the gospel of
Christ to be abominable. Specifically those items that are unauthorized
by the inspired word, i.e. allowing women to preach, teach and
otherwise usurp the authority of men, Singing Gospel songs accompanied
by instruments, humming, swaying, arm waving, hands clapping and such
like. The choirs, the special groups singing, the building of highly
expensive and ornate edifices, compromising sermons and doctrines,
participation in group activities of those who are in error...all of
which constitute apostasy.
We believe that the Holy Spirit, through inspiration of the Apostle
Paul, meant the exact words expressed in Colossians 3: 17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him."
This forbids any innovations or additions to His instructions for
worship. "In the name of" means "by His authority"!
Our only plea to you is to live your life as the New Testament
Christians did. They did Bible things in Bible ways. They followed only
the word of the Holy Spirit through the inspired Apostles which we now
have as the Bible. They obeyed only the Bible which made them into only
Christians, not Paul Christians, not Peter Christians, just Christians
and if you do nothing today except strictly as the scriptures dictate,
it will make YOU a Christian just as it did them. Because your sins
will be forgiven and the Lord will add you to His church...His called
out. Whose name do you wear? Or what kind of Christian
are you? Re-read the paragraph next above this one. By whose authority
do you get your religious name?
